Homemade Pizza

For numerous years, I was not much of a pizza person. I think that was because my mom loves pizza, so we had it quite often, and I grew tired of it. When I went to college, I didn't usually eat the pizza in the cafeteria, so I started missing my mom's homemade pizza. After graduating undergraduate, I started loving pizza again. She has recently changed her recipe to going off of one presented in a Brazilian cooking show. So this is what we made the other night.

Ingredients:

  • 15 grams of Fleischmann's fresh active yeast
  • 1/3 of a tablespoon of salt
  • 1/2 of a tablespoon of sugar
  • 1 cup of warm water
  • 5 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • 500 grams of flour

Directions:

  1. Mix the yeast, salt, sugar, water, and vegetable oil in a bowl with a whisk.
  2. Slowly add in the flour to the mix above. It's better to mix it with your hands but you can also use a stand mixer if necessary.
  3. Let the dough sit on the counter for 20-30 minutes to grow.
  4. Preheat the oven to 375°.
  5. Roll out the dough to your desired thickness and add toppings to your liking.
  6. Place in the oven for 17-20 minutes.
  7. Enjoy!

As a side note, this recipe is enough for 4-5 people. Since that's too much food for just me, I usually make enough to eat right away and then freeze the rest. The best way I've found to freeze the dough is to actually roll it out and add just the sauce to it. Bake it for 10 minutes, let it cool, then freeze. When you take it out of the freezer at a later time, let it thaw out, add a little more sauce, add your desired toppings, and bake for 10-12 minutes. It'll still taste great!

08/13/2014 Update:

I took 2 pizzas out of the freezer tonight and they turned out great! I had to put a little bit of sauce on it since it'd been soaked up by the dough but then just added toppings and had a great dinner.
