Ipsy - March

So I've gotten five (!) subscription boxes this month, and it's been awesome. Each one is super unique in its own way, and I absolutely loved just how bright and shiny pink the packaging for Ipsy was. It just made me that more excited to dig into it, rather than the old boring brown UPS envelopes.

There were six items in March's Ipsy box: 1 bag, 1 foundation, 1 make-up brush, 1 highlighter pencil, 1 eye shadow, and 1 hair oil sample.

Typically, subscription boxes include a card detailing all the samples you've received. However, either there was a mix-up, or Ipsy does not include such a card. The only piece of paper I got in my box was a sweepstakes to win a one-year subscription. It was a bit annoying since I had to pull up my computer to read through description of each item.

This bag is great. It's a good size and feels plenty sturdy. I'm already using it by keeping all the knickknacks I take to work in one place since I tend to change bags once a week. It makes it much easier to simply grab each pouch from my purse and place it into another rather that grabbing each little lip balm or bobby pin or whatever else there is to make my purse weigh 30 pounds.

LANEIGE BB Cushion - 0.21 oz value $14.28

This foundation goes on very smooth. I was surprised to receive all skin tones though, considering I filled out a profile stating my skin tone. While I'm happy to give the other ones away, it just felt unnecessary to include all, and possible a bit wasteful.

Crown Brush Oval Concealer Brush (C224)  - 0.03 oz value $2.98

I hardly wear makeup, so as soon as I pulled out this item, I knew I'd be finding a new home for it since I wouldn't even know how to use it. Luckily, as soon as I put it up on the Swaps list in My Subscription Addiction, someone snatched it up and traded me for a shampoo and conditioner sampler from Hello. I've already used both and absolutely loved it, so I'm super happy with the trade.

Chella Ivory Lace Highlighter - 1.4 grams value $18

I haven't had a chance to use this yet, but I'm absolutely looking forward to trying it out! Ivory highlighters have been making their rounds around the fashion news for the last couple of years, so it'll be fun seeing what I can do with it. This is the description from the Chella website, where it's got a big "People VIP Editors' Award" badge on it:

"This fresh and pretty neutral pencil will brighten and visibly lift your eyes when lightly applied on the brow bone, dark circles, blemishes and red spots. In addition, this multi-purpose pencil can be used to brighten and “open” the eye area by applying to the water line and inner corners of the eye. Applying a thin, blended line down the center of the nose creates the illusion of a thinner nose. Perfect for highlighting a beautiful smile by eliminating dark shadows and preventing lipstick spread by applying to the Cupid 's bow and along the lip line. So many uses in just one perfect pencil! Formulated for LIGHT toned skin."

NYX Cosmetics Glam Shadow - 0.06 oz value $4.50

I love eye shadows, it's one of the few makeup items that I actually enjoy playing with. That being said, I have more than I know what to do with already! This is a very pretty and sparkly gold, but I'll be fine passing it on through the Swaps list since I already have a couple of gold eye shadows.

Coolway Glow Oil Treatment  - 10 mL value $2.99

Oil treatments are typically too heavy for hair and leave it feeling weighed down and just greasy looking. However, after reading a bit more about Coolway, it's absolutely raved about everywhere, so I'm looking forward to at least giving it a shot. I also love the fact that they clearly show on the tiny bottle that it's cruelty free.

While I had never been mindful before receiving this sample of whether or not products included this disclaimer, seeing that bunny made me realize that the majority of the products I use are probably not cruelty free, which just made me absolutely sick to my stomach. I'll be much more mindful of it when purchasing new products, especially since that's all I can think of whenever I look at Zoey now!

Verdict:

I really like my first month with Ipsy! The total value for the bag was about $43, while I paid just $10 for it. I do think this value was overstated because of all the extra samples of the foundation, but all in all, it's still great! I'm looking forward to trying the hair oil and being more mindful of any future products I purchase.
