BarkBox - January

Whenever I bring a box into the house, Zoey starts hopping around me, always assuming it's for her. Such was the case when I came in with the January BarkBox last night. I have to say though, this month's box was a bit of a disappointment to both of us. Yes, I understand that Zoey is the leader of toy destroyers, which isn't your normal pup getting a BarkBox. But when I opened the box and saw the toy they'd sent, I immediately thought she'd rip it to pieces within minutes. She did not disappoint.

There were five items in January's box: 1 toy, 2 chew sticks, and 2 bags of treats.

The toy was this big and gangly moose. It's super cute and soft. It had a squeaker in the head and something in the box that, when shaken, would make a whirring sound. Zoey thrashed it around and really liked it. But then she bit it around the body. She could tell there was something hard inside, so with a couple bites and rips, she'd tore through to the middle and ripped out the plastic thing. Needless to say, there was no saving the poor moose.

I loved these treats. The Off Leash Stix is made of natural turkey and pumpkin (and Zoey's obsessed with pumpkins, Halloweens are hard with her). They're pretty light chew sticks and break into pieces easily. Considering Zoey almost ripped my leggings to get to it, I take it that she really liked them too. Quick side note, make sure to keep some water nearby. Zoey drank up her whole bowl of water after chewing just half of one stick.

I haven't opened the salmon treats yet. Typically, Zoey has really liked salmon flavored treats. These are pretty good sized and squishy too, so I think it's safe to say she'll enjoy them.

The Etta Says stick is a staple in these boxes. I've tried sawing one in half to no luck. I don't feel comfortable giving her a whole one, because it'll be hard to take away and she'll work at it until it's all gone. That being said, I'll probably donate this one again.

Lastly, considering I don't like giving Zoey the Etta Says stick, I will most certainly be donating this item. According to the description, it's a Dynamo femur, made 100% of American beef bones, ideal for strong chewers. There's even a note on the card that says: "BarkBox tip: keep your carpets clean, serve this chew in the kitchen!". No thanks, next!

Overall, I don't think the box paid for itself this month. Out of the 5 items, I would only have purchased the Off Leash Stix ($9) and the Salmon Jerky Treat ($11), for a total of $20. The moose ($11) only lasted a couple minutes, and the Etta Says Chew ($4) and Dynamo Femur ($4) were donated.
